Overview and metadata sections

The mission of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) is to "advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research." The AAUW's activities include sponsoring studies and advocacy on women's issues, providing fellowships to women scholars, and funding charitable projects.

In 1882, the Association of Collegiate Alumnae was founded with a membership of 65 female graduates of eight colleges and universities dedicated to uniting alumnae of different institutions in "practical education work." In 1921, that group merged with the Southern Association of College Women (started in 1903) to form the AAUW.

The Northeastern Montgomery County branch of AAUW as founded in Glenside, Pennsylvania in 1945. It is still active as of 2012.
