Overview and metadata sections

The Old York Road Contemporary Club was organized in 1934 by a group of women who broke away from Woman’s Club of Jenkintown "because they wished to follow a format of current event study including World Affairs." The Club’s motto was "Getting together is a beginning, Keeping together is progress, Working together is success." Until the mid-1960’s, the club met twice a month, then once a month thereafter. As a member of the Federation of Women’s Clubs, its committee organization conformed "as far as is practical" to that of the State Federation. The club’s organization and By-Laws changed in 1980 when it quit the County Federation and joined the Philadelphia Federation of Women’s Clubs and Allied Organizations, in which it was not active. The club dissolved in May, 1992.
