Overview and metadata sections

The Yost Family Association organized annual reunions, performed genealogical research, and promoted the Yost family heritage for over three-quarters of a century. The association was founded in Norristown in 1898 and held a reunion nearly every year (except during World War II), until it disbanded in 1976.

The Yost family progenitor was Jacob (Jost) Yost (1696-), who emigrated from Zweibrucken, Germany in 1727. He settled with his wife Elizabeth Shambach in what is now known as Whitpain Township. The Yost Homestead Farm remained in the family until 1922.

Bibliography:

"Yost Family Association." Document found in collection.

The Yost Family Association records are comprised of records of the Association, some original Yost family papers, and genealogical research. There is an item-level inventory inside one of the boxes.

The Association records include: minutes of Yost Family Descendants meetings, 1898-1975; reunion attendance register, 1913-1975; correspondence, 1950s-1970s; and treasurer's account book, 1898-1976. There are also newsletters from the Yost Family Association, an officers list, newspaper clippings about the annual reunions, and copies of word games played at the reunions.

The original Yost family papers include photographs, financial papers, and vital records. Some of the photographs are framed and others are in albums (circa 1870-1900); there is also a book of photograph negatives.

The financial records include two account books, one belonging to Samuel Buck (1836) and one to Mary Yost (circa 1835), and an inventory of the Mary Grubb estate by estate administrator Isaac Yost (1848). There are also various loose Yost family documents.

Genealogical research on the Yost family includes a list of Yost family births, deaths, marriages, 1898-1975; clippings of obituaries and marriage announcements; and a family tree.

Gift of C. Leslie Hunsburger, 1979.
