Overview and metadata sections

Kiwanis International is a coeducational service club that was founded in 1915. It is headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. "Kiwanis clubs focus on changing the world by serving children, one child and one community at a time."

The Kiwanis Club of Yeadon, formed by a small group of men from the Borough of Yeadon, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, received its charter from Kiwanis International on January 19, 1939. The Club was very active in the community and sponsored numerous youth activities. Among other things, the club established a Youth Center, sponsored a basketball league, held an annual dinner for area orphans, and sponsored the Annual Kiwanis Show in which many Yeadon residents participated. The Club dissolved by the late 2000s.

Summary descriptive information on this collection was compiled in 2012-2014 as part of a project conducted by the Historical Society of Pennsylvania to make better known and more accessible the largely hidden collections of small, primarily volunteer run repositories in the Philadelphia area. The Hidden Collections Initiative for Pennsylvania Small Archival Repositories (HCI-PSAR) was funded by a grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

This is a preliminary finding aid. No physical processing, rehousing, reorganizing, or folder listing was accomplished during the HCI-PSAR project.

In some cases, more detailed inventories or finding aids may be available on-site at the repository where this collection is held; please contact Delaware County Historical Society directly for more information.
