Overview and metadata sections

"Founded in 1895, Delaware County Historical Society is the oldest historical society in Delaware County [Pennsylvania]. Its mission is to acquire, preserve and make available documentation of Delaware County history; to provide and support educational programs on the history of Delaware County; and to publish materials relevant to this history.

"DCHS has two homes. Greenbank Farm in Marple and the historic old Delaware County National Bank building in Chester. Greenbank Farm, 991 Palmers Mill Road, Media, is an historic farm site as well as home to some of DCHS's administrative and Passport to History offices. The Delaware County National Bank building, 408 Avenue of the States, Chester, is the new home of the DCHS research library, our museum collections, the Ethel Sergeant Clark Smith Student Education Center and the ConocoPhillips computer laboratory."

Materials created by the Delaware County Historical Society.

Summary descriptive information on this collection was compiled in 2012-2014 as part of a project conducted by the Historical Society of Pennsylvania to make better known and more accessible the largely hidden collections of small, primarily volunteer run repositories in the Philadelphia area. The Hidden Collections Initiative for Pennsylvania Small Archival Repositories (HCI-PSAR) was funded by a grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

This is a preliminary finding aid. No physical processing, rehousing, reorganizing, or folder listing was accomplished during the HCI-PSAR project.

In some cases, more detailed inventories or finding aids may be available on-site at the repository where this collection is held; please contact Delaware County Historical Society directly for more information.
