"The Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia County granted the Charter for Chestnut Hill Hospital on 21 November 1903. A seven-member Board of Trustees containing two physicians was organized, with Dr. Radcliffe Cheston as the first President. The hospital was opened on 14 October 1903 in two small houses with fourteen beds. Chief Nurse Rena D. Wood managed a staff of one gradate nurse and two practical nurses caring for a daily average of eight patients."

This collection of materials relates to the history of Chestnut Hill Hospital. Files are arranged to allow for further additions of documents. Files include research notes about the history of the hospital, brochures/flyers, records of events, blueprints. It also houses individual items which are separately cataloged. The unprocessed materials include, 4 boxes of administrative files and 1 box of files from the hospital library and archives. Additions are ongoing.

The contents of this collection includes:

History of the Hospital including founders, key personnel, physical growth and services. Research for this book was done by Margaret O. Kirk although the manuscript was completed by an unidentified editor.

Chestnut Hill Hospital Bulletin October 15, 1942. vol.2 no.1.

Articles include photos of nursing classes and a list of men and women from the Hospital serving in the Armed forces of the U.S.
