Overview and metadata sections

H. Kohnstamm & Co. was founded in 1851 by members of the Kohnstamm family. Although they briefly dabbled in blueing and laundry supplies, the company's main interest was importation and or production of colorants and pigments. The company was adversely affected by the U.S. government's 1976 ban on Red Dye #2. In 1988 H. Kohnstamm & Co. was acquired by Sensient Technologies which closed several of its operations.

These are specimen cards printed for members of the printing trade to show the variety of color inks being offered by H. Kohnstamm & Co.

This collection consists of loose color cards and a fabric covered cardboard case originally used to contain them.
