Perkin-Elmer was founded in 1937 by Richard Perkin and Charles Elmer as a manufacturer of analytical instrumentation. They originally specialized in the manufacture of spectrophotometers but soon branched out into other fields.

The collection consists of anniversary related files (incl. research files from the company newsletter and personnel files of key players in the company's development) and slightly later files containing publicity and corporate earnings reports.

This material offers a broad overview of the Perkin-Elmer instrument Corp. as it prepared to celebrate its 50th Anniversary in 1987. It also includes material from the Perkin-Elmer Corporation mostly concerned with internal and external publicity.
