The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science was founded in 1932. It began as a non-profit foundation but in 1967 was transformed into a quasi-governmental organization (under the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture). In 2003 it was transformed yet again into an independent administrative institution whose goal to contribute to the advancement of science by fostering young researchers, promoting international co-operation, awarding grants and collecting and disseminating information on scientific research activities.
The brochure, in addition to offering an overview of the Society's activities also contains some financial and organizational information.
