Williams Haynes was the longtime editor of Chemical Industries Modern Plastics and other industry publications. In addition to being a recognized expert in the field of chemical economics, he was the author of a five-volume history of the American chemical industry. Over his 38-year career he amassed a large volume of reference materials relating to the chemical industry.

The chart titled 1949 Table of Synthetic Yarns and Fibers originally appeared in the September 1949 issue of Textile World where it accompanied an article by the editor, C. W. Bendigo entitled Newer Synthetics Are in the Spotlight. The other entitled Rayon is a whole family of fabrics, was published by the Consumer Service Section of Avisco (American Viscose Corporation) as Wall Chart E-1 and is undated.

Collection consists of a pair of wall charts. One is single sided only; both are a combination of texts and photos. One measures 22x28 inches. The other is a 22x36 inch double-sided chart.
