Harold Hibbert was born in Manchester, England on August 27 1877. He died in Philadelphia, PA on May 13, 1945. He studied at the University of Wales and the University of Leipzig and upon receiving his degree Hibbert pursued an additional three years of postgraduate research in the U.S. and in England. In 1910 Hibbert settled in America first at the Du Pont research laboratories, then at the Mellon Institute in Pittsburgh. He later taught at Yale and McGill Universities. his specialties were gas warfare, cooling agents and cellulose chemistry.

The collection functions best as a memorial to Hibbert the man. There is little of technical value.

This is a group of short biographies about Hibbert (one a reprint from the NAS Biographical Memoirs series) and a reprint of an article by Hibbert on searching chemical literature.
