The collection is necessarily spotty, a snapshot of a fifty-year friendship between teacher and student. Although the letters are not, strictly speaking, technical, they do convey a sense of the work both men were engaged in during the various decades of their lives.

The correspondence is chronological with a gap between the years 1949 and 1958.
