Southern Appalachian Yearly Meeting and Association opened 1970/05/02 as an outgrowth of Southern Appalachian Association of Friends, itself formally organized 1959/05/17 at its fourth annual gathering. It joined Friends General Conference in 1977.

Representative Sessions (142nd 2019-03 through 149th 2022-10) and Annual Sessions (2019-2022) including reports and minutes.
These records cover a period of change in SAYMA, as several constituent meetings disaffiliated over disagreements around meeting authority and Quaker meeting procedure around SAYMA's Uplifting Racial Justice committee.

Previously known as Atlanta Friends Group. In correspondence with the American Friends Fellowship Council from 1943. Established as a monthly meeting in 9/1951.
Established in 1970 out of Friends World Committee (FWCC).

Quakers in Boone began meeting as a worship group; the monthly meeting was established in 1992. Boone Monthly Meeting was laid down between 2015 and 2021.
Brevard began as a preparative meeting in 1986 under Asheville; established 1987 as a monthly meeting. Brevard Monthly Meeting was laid down in 2022.

Friends in East Tennesee began meeting for worship in 1978. By 1993, the meeting was established as Tri-Cities, which changed its name sometime before 2001 to Foxfire.

Affiliated with AFFC from 1943-47, FWCC from 1962-70.
Nashville membership materials are primarily lists of member and attendee names and addresses. Minutes include the occasional committee report and more regularly treasurer's reports. From 1985-1988 the minutes sources are a mix of mailed newsletters and deposited minutes. Most early deposited material is mimeographed copies, not originals.

Filed chronologically with other miscellaneous records.
Arranged chronologically within a 2024 records deposit, these files include a Public Minute in support of Black Lives Matter, a 2022 report from SAYMA Annual Sessions during a time of conflict within the YM, a public notice related to land acknowledgement and return that NFM paid for in the Mvskoke News, and a letter of appreciate to two Black members of Atlanta Meeting for their witness during SAYMA Representative Sessions related to URJ (Uplifting Racial Justice).
Established before 1993; meeting for worship in 1978. Became a monthly meeting and changed its name sometime between 1997-2001 to Foxfire.
