Overview and metadata sections

Westtown Monthly Meeting was established in 1919 by Concord Quarterly Meeting (Orthodox); its first business session opened in 1920. Westtown is currently an active monthly meeting.

The original records of Westtown Monthly Meeting include: vital records: removals, 1920-1942, and membership, 1920-1969; joint meeting minutes, 1920-1990; ministers and elders minutes, 1920-1988 (Preparative Meeting); overseers minutes, 1967-2000.

Biographical / Historical

Official records of proceedings kept for all Quaker business meetings. Only Quakers could participate. It has responsibility for care of members, authorizes removals and marriages, maintains discipline, considers the queries, manages meeting property, fosters social concerns, and reports regularly to the quarterly meeting. Beginning at the end of the 19th century, men and women ceased to hold separate business meetings, meeting instead in joint session.
