This is a finding aid. It is a description of archival material held at the Quaker Meeting Records at Haverford College Quaker & Special Collections and Friends Historical Library of Swarthmore College. Overview and metadata sections
An indulged meeting at Upper Dublin was established by Horsham Monthly Meeting in 1814. A meeting for worship and preparative meeting were established under Horsham Monthly Meeting by Abington Quarterly Meeting in 1815. The opening business session was held in 1816. The Orthodox preparative meeting was discontinued in 1827, and its members were attached to Horsham Preparative Meeting. Upper Dublin Preparative Meeting (Hicksite)formed at the time of the Separation was transferred to Upper Dublin Monthly Meeting in 1941. The preparative meeting continued as a committee of the United monthly meeting after 1941.
Records of Upper Dublin Preparative Meeting (Hicksite) and its predecessor, the pre-Separation meeting, 1816-1940, as follows: women's meeting minutes, 1816-1885; book of discipline belonging to the women's meeting, 1806-1829; burial chart, 1818-1929; plan of meetinghouse and burial ground, 1934.

Collection Inventory
At the time of the Separation in Philadelphia Yearly Meeting in 1827-28, pre-Separation vital records were generally retained by the branch with which the recorder was affiliated. Researchers are advised to consider vital records which span this period carefully: in many cases, the meeting without the original records may have reconstructed these records for its membership only, giving the impression that individuals in the other branch were never members.

Official records of proceedings kept for all Quaker business meetings. Only Quakers could participate. It has responsibility for care of members, authorizes removals and marriages, maintains discipline, considers the queries, manages meeting property, fosters social concerns, and reports regularly to the quarterly meeting. Beginning at the end of the 19th century, men and women ceased to hold separate business meetings, meeting instead in joint session.
Minute books of the men's meeting and joint sessions as follows: 1816-1842, 1842-1881, 1881-1907, 1907-1940, 1987-1999. Volume for 1816-42 contains pre-Separation men's minutes, 1816-1842.
Joint Sessions in which men and women meet together for business began on 10mo21, 1885.
