This is a finding aid. It is a description of archival material held at the Quaker Meeting Records at Haverford College Quaker & Special Collections and Friends Historical Library of Swarthmore College. Unless otherwise noted, the materials described below are physically available in their reading room, and not digitally available through the web.
Overview and metadata sections
A quarterly meeting for Gloucester and Salem was established in1682 at a general meeting held in Salem. In 1794, Haddonfield Quarterly Meeting was created out of division of this quarterly meeting. The resulting meeting was then known as Salem Quarterly Meeting.
In 1904, Salem Quarterly Meeting (Orthodox) was absorbed into Haddonfield Quarterly Meeting, forming Haddonfield and Salem Quarterly Meeting. When Haddonfield Quarterly Meeting (Hicksite) merged with Haddonfield and Salem Quarterly Meeting (Orthodox), in 1954, the former Orthodox meetings at Salem and Greenwich were then returned to Salem Quarterly Meeting.
Records of Salem Quarterly Meeting and its predecessors, the pre-Separation, Hicksite and Orthodox meetings, since 1681, includes: men's minutes, 1697-1966/1985-2015; women's minutes, 1707-1904; ministers' and elders' minutes, 1735-1965/2012-16; financial records, 1719-1750; committee records; and other miscellaneous papers. Some post-2000 records are digital; digital files are accessible to TriCollege accounts or on-campus users.
Before the Separation, this meeting was known as Gloucester and Salem Quarterly Meeting.
