Abstract:

Friends began meeting for worship at Newark, Delaware, in the summer of 1962, near the campus of the University of Delaware. By May of 1963 regular monthly business meetings were being held. Newark Monthly Meeting was formally established in 1965 by Western Quarterly Meeting.

Records include: Minutes and Queries, 1962-2021, vital records including correspondence concerning marriage and memorial minutes, Worship & Ministry, and committee and miscellaneous records. Records are primarily paper pre-2020 and primarily digital post-2020.

In 1995-1996 the meeting deeply considered the question of membership, in the Religious Society of Friends generally and in Newark Monthly Meeting in particular. The meeting approved its Statement on Membership in September 1996, it was reaffirmed in 2020.
