Overview and metadata sections
New Garden Preparative Meeting was established in 1715. The meeting split into Hicksite and Orthodox branches in 1827, at the time of the Hicksite Separation in Philadelphia Yearly Meeting.
In 1924, Western Quarterly Meeting (Hicksite) gave the Hicksite preparative meeting permission to dissolve. The preparative meeting was actually discontinued in 1928
New Garden Preparative Meeting (Orthodox) was laid down in 1924; its members were transferred to West Grove Preparative Meeting. The meeting for worship was discontinued by 1929.

Collection Inventory
Official records of proceedings kept for all Quaker business meetings. Only Quakers could participate. It has responsibility for care of members, authorizes removals and marriages, maintains discipline, considers the queries, manages meeting property, fosters social concerns, and reports regularly to the quarterly meeting. Beginning at the end of the 19th century, men and women ceased to hold separate business meetings, meeting instead in joint session.
Minute books as follows : 11mo 29 1827-7mo 30 1874; 10mo 1 1874-4mo 2 1916; 5mo 2 1915-3mo 4 1928. Vol.1915-1928 includes a list of bequests.
Joint sessions with women began in 1886.
