Overview and metadata sections

Galen Preparative Meeting was reportedly established in 1814 under Farmington Monthly Meeting, and was set off to Junius Monthly Meeting on its establishment in 1815.

At the time of the Separation in 1828, most of the members of Junius Monthly Meeting sided with the Hicksites, and Junius (Orthodox) was laid down.

Junius Monthly Meeting (Hicksite) included the preparative meetings at Galen and Junius. In 1848, the Progressive Separation resulted in Junius Preparative Meeting siding with Progressive Friends, and Galen siding with the Hicksites. From 1848 until Junius Monthly Meeting was laid down in 1863, Junius Monthly Meeting (Hicksite) in effect was limited to Galen Preparative Meeting. Junius Meeting appears to have continued as a Progressive Meeting for some time, retaining the Junius Meeting House and probably some of the meeting records belonging to Junius Monthly Meeting. The Progressive side maintained that they were the legitimate Junius Monthly Meeting.

In 1863, Junius Monthly Meeting (Hicksite) was laid down and its members atttached to Farmington Monthly meeting. Its members were attached in 1864 to the Preparative Meetings of Macedon, South Farmington, and Farmington, and a Meeting for Worship kept up at Galen under a committee appointed by Farmington Monthly Meeting.

In 1870, Farmington Quarterly Meeting and Farmington Monthly Meeting reestablished Galen Preparative Meeting, apparently as a joint meeting including both men and women. However, in 1882 Galen Preparative Meeting proposed that the business meeting be laid down and this was approved by Farmington Monthly Meeting. Meeting for Worship at Galen was continued beyond 1883.
