Abstract:

Friends began meeting at Patapsco in the early 1700's, and the meeting was placed under Gunpowder Monthly Meeting at its establishment in 1739. In 1776, Patapsco was established as a preparative meeting. In 1781, Patapsco moved to a new site at the eastern side of Jones Falls (Aisquith), and changed its name to Baltimore Preparative Meeting. Eleven years later, a monthly meeting was established in Baltimore, and the preparative meeting continued under this new body. With the division of Baltimore Monthly Meeting into two monthly meetings in 1807, the Baltimore Preparative Meeting changed its name to Baltimore Preparative Meeting for the Eastern District, continuing under the monthly meeting of the same name. During the Separation of 1828, this preparative meeting sided with the Hicksite branch. Baltimore Preparative Meeting for the Eastern District was laid down in 1916.
