Overview and metadata sections

Young Democracy was an organization of progressive young people (under 40 years old) united in service to the principles and practice of fundamental democracy. It was envisioned that, in time, local units would exist in towns, cities, schools and colleges, where members would fight against prejudice, inertia, and greed. Devere Allen was both Executive Secretary and editor of the newsletter of the same name. The members were radical to liberal and anti-war. All but the Philadelphia Unit had ceased by the end of 1921. In Fight for Peace, Devere Allen wrote: "They [Young Democracy] were raided and all but forced out of business.".

The Swarthmore College Peace Collection is not the official repository for the records of this organization.
