Originally organized in 1936 as the American Committee for Christian German Refugees, the American Christian Committee for Refugees has also used the following names at various times: American Christian Committee for Refugees, Inc., American Committee for Christian German Refugees, American Committee for Christian Refugees, Inc., American Christian Committee for German Refugees. Organized to point out Christians, as well as Jewish people, involved in refugee problems; and to take some of the load from Jewish agencies by engaging in practical refugee work in America and abroad. Engaged in cooperative endeavors with many other agencies. Based in New York City. The organization ceased in 1947.
