Boskey

Shirley Ecker Boskey was an attorney who served as director of the International Relations Department of the World Bank. Boskey was educated at Vassar College and Columbia University, where she earned her law degree. Before her time at the World Bank, Boskey was employed as Assistant Chief Counsel for the Office of Territories of the U.S. Department of the Interior. Boskey began working at the World Bank in 1954, where she supported the creation of economic development organizations. She was promoted to the role of Director of the International Relations Department in 1975, becoming the first woman to head a department at the World Bank. She retired from that position in 1983. After retiring, Boskey was involved with World Bank retiree organizaton the 1818 Society, eventually writing a history of the organization. She was also on the board of directors of Recording For the Blind and Dyslexic of Metropolitan Washington. Boskey died in 1998.

The Shirley Ecker Boskey Papers consist of reports, correspondence, meeting minutes, and publications from Boskey's time at the Department of the Interior and at the World Bank. Among the World Bank materials, there is a particular emphasis on international investment insurance. Additionally, there are materials related to Boskey's involvement in the 1818 Society, a group for World Bank alumni, and a box of bound publications related to both the Department of the Interior and the World Bank.
