Overview and metadata sections
Robert Ross is an economist specializing in developing countries. Born in 1933, Ross attended schools in Switzerland and France before graduating from Harvard in 1956 with a B.A. in Economics. He worked as an analyst, interpreter, and news writer and served on the U.N. Economic Commission for Latin America (1960-1962) before earning an M.A. in Economics from Georgetown University (1964). Subsequently, Ross worked at the Latin American Economic and Social Planning Institute in Santiago, Chile (1962-1965), served as Vice President for Adela Investment Company (1965-1972), and as President of the Latin American Agribusiness Development Corporation (1972-1998), Solar Development Capital, Solar Develpment Foundation, and CorporacioÌn Financiera Ambiental (2002-2004), and Environmental Enterprises Assistance Fund (2002-2006).
Consists of annual reports, government reports, correspondence, and proposals. Included are reports on the U.S.S.R.; investment proposals; government reports; internal documentation from the Adela Investment Company; documents on the Latin American Agribusiness Development Corporation and the Société Internationale Financière pour les Investissements et le Développement en Afrique; and Richard Boyle's correspondence with Eugene Gonzalez and Ernst Keller.
Gift of Robert Ross in 2009 [ML.2009.026]. Additional accessions were received in September 2011 [ML.2011.032], August 2013 [ML.2013.021], August 2014 [ML.2014.025], and March 2016 [ML.2016.005].
For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests are processed by an approved third-party vendor. Please note, the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks to as long as several months and there may be financial costs associated with the process. This collection was processed at the time of accessioning. A collection-level finding aid, MARC record and file list were created in 2010 by Dan Santamaria and Regine Heberlein. Materials in subsequent accessions in September 2011-March 2016 were incorporated into the collection. For these accessions, the finding aid was updated, file lists were created when appropriate, and materials were re-housed at the time they were accessioned.
No materials were separated during accessioning in 2011-2014.

This accession includes a curriculum vitae from 2011, records from the Adela Investment Co., Inc., LAAD annual reports, and correspondence between Peter Drucker, Ernst Keller, George Moore and Emilio Collado.

This accession is comprised of materials related to the Adela Investment Company, Inc., including memoranda, correspondence, notes, board meeting minutes, reports, and a small number of press clippings.

This accession is comprised of materials related to the Adela Investment Company, Inc. It contains some of the company's internal documentation, such as memoranda and the text of a presentation on divestiture given at a staff meeting. It also contains several reports, including notes on a talk by Peter F. Drucker summarizing an Adela management meeting, a report by Richard Boyle on the mobilization of capital, and a 1996 U.S. Agency for International Development study on venture capital. There is also correspondence between Richard Boyle and Eugene Gonzalez, the former Executive Vice President of Adela who later became President of the Board of Management, and a file on Ernst Keller, the Managing Director of Adela for its first ten years. Ernst Keller's file is mainly comprised of correspondence between himself and Richard Boyle. Both men's correspondence with Boyle mainly pertains to Boyle's project to collect stories on Adela's history.
