Mirsky, Jeannette (1903-1987)

Jeannette Mirsky Ginsburg was an American author and biographer whose work centered on the history of exploration. She was a long-time resident of Princeton, NJ, where she died in 1987.

Stein, Aurél (1862-1943)

Sir Marc Aurel Stein was a Hungarian-born British archaeologist, primarily known for his explorations and archaeological discoveries in Central Asia. His collection of books and manuscripts taken from Dunhuang caves is important for the study of the history of Central Asia and the art and literature of Buddhism. He wrote several volumes on his expeditions and discoveries which include Ancient Khotan, Serindia and Innermost Asia. Stein died in 1943.

This collection consists of reference files collected by Jeanette Mirsky for her book Sir Aurel Stein, archaeological explorer (1977). It includes original material passed on by the family as well as reproductions from a number of archival collections.

A travel permit/passport for Stein was combined with Pulinsidun da xue Dong Ya tu shu guan cang Dunhuang Tulufan wen xian.

The type of acquisition of this collection is unknown.
