Henry Martin (July 15, 1925 – June 30, 2020) was an American cartoonist. He graduated from Princeton University in 1948 with a degree in Art History, and studied art at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. He worked as a cartoonist and illustrator for more than 50 years, publishing in The New Yorker, Punch, Ladies' Home Journal, The Saturday Evening Post, the Princeton Alumni Weekly and many other magazines. His single-panel comic strip, "Good News/Bad News," was nationally syndicated, and he wrote and/or illustrated more than 35 books.
Consists of scrapbooks of tearsheets and clippings, original artwork in pencil and in pen and ink, matted artwork, correspondence, financial documents, periodicals, newsletters, greeting cards, exhibition materials, permission agreements, and contracts documenting Henry Martin's career as a cartoonist and illustrator. The majority of the collection consists of Martin's original artwork in pencil and in pen and ink, along with 24 scrapbooks containing tearsheets and clippings of Martin's cartoons and art from various publications, and two scrapbooks documenting his correspondence with cartoonist George Booth.
Materials were not arranged by the archivist during initial processing, but were housed by size where appropriate.
Donated by Jane Martin McGrath in 2021 (AM 2022-051).

Please note, the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks to as long as several months and there may be financial costs associated with the process. Requests should be directed through the Ask Us Form.
