Overview and metadata sections
George Parsons Lathrop was a 19th century American editor, novelist, and poet. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1851, he later married the American writer and philanthropist, Rose Hawthorne, who was the daughter of another American author, Nathaniel Hawthorne.
This collection consists of 19 letters from contemporary authors and friends of 19th century American poet and novelist George Parsons Lathrop, as well as one unrelated, unidentified letter. The letters to Lathrop (where dated) are from April 22, 1879 through March 17, 1893. The letters concern a myriad of personal and literary matters including a note from Margaret Damrosch (daughter of Secretary of State James Gillispie Blaine, who was also the Republican candidate for President of the United States in 1884), and a letter from fellow author Douglas Sladen regarding exchanging copies of their own books.
