Sarduy, Severo

Severo Sarduy is one of the best-known Cuban authors of the 20th century. Born in 1937, in the Cuban city of Camagüey, Sarduy lived in Paris from 1960 until his death in 1993. There, he connected with a group of French intellectuals including François Wahl and Roland Barthes. His work encompasses essays, poetry, novels, radio plays, criticism, and painting.

Correspondence consists of 670 letters sent by Cuban writer Severo Sarduy to various members of the Sarduy Aguilar family, including to his mother, father, and sister, over a thirty-four year period from 1959 until his death in 1993.

Original order was maintained. Correspondence is arranged chronologically.

Purchase, 2014 (AM 2014-92).

For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests are processed by an approved third-party vendor. Please note, the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks to as long as several months and there may be financial costs associated with the process. Requests should be directed through the Ask Us Form.

Inventory added by Allyse Terrell '14. Collection was removed from three-ring binders and housed in archival folders while maintaining its arrangement.

Finding aid updated by Armando Suárez in May 2019.
