This is a finding aid. It is a description of archival material held at the Princeton University Library: Manuscripts Division. Unless otherwise noted, the materials described below are physically available in their reading room, and not digitally available through the web.
Overview and metadata sections
Consists of an open collection of photographs by Dobe. Currently, there are 4 photograph albums containing 419 photographs of Greece. Included are views of the Acropolis, Parthenon, Sounion, Piraeus, Salamis, Aigina, Corinth, Poros island, Tiryns, Mycenae, Mistra, Olympia, Meteora, Crete, Mount Athos, Nauplio, Delphi, Iōannina, Dodona, Santorini volcano and many others. The photographs of the first trip are placed in the first three albums including 4 panoramas. The fourth volume contains images of the second trip, mostly of the eruption of the Santorini volcano (1925-1926), including 2 panoramas. Some of the images are placed by two or six on each leaf and most of them are numbered and dated. Bookplate on front paste-down endpaper reads: "ex-libris Friedrich Dobe." "Hellas in Bildern" is written in golden letters on leather spine of each album. Also included in the collection is Dobe's printed book "Santorini. Die fantastische Insel", Berlin 1930 and a photograph of a print of the eastern part of the south side of the Parthenon.
