Danubio Torres Fierro was born in Uruguay in 1947. He has been the editor-in-chief of several Latin American literary magazines: Plural (Mexico, 1974-1976), Revista de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (1981-1985), and Vuelta Sudamericana (Buenos Aires, 1986-1989). His own publications include Los territorios del exilio (La Gaya Ciencia, 1979) and Memoria plural: Entrevistas a escritores latinoamericanos (1986).
The collection consists of correspondence and manuscripts by many leading Latin American writers, including Reinaldo Arenas, José Bianco, Jorge Luis Borges, Guillermo Cabrera Infante, Carlos Fuentes, Alberto Girri, Victoria Ocampo, Octavio Paz, Angel Rama, and Emir Rodríguez Monegal.
