Stoddard

The Stoddards were landowners and farmers in New York State and Connecticut.

The collection consists of selected documents of Increase Billings Stoddard and his father, Robert Stoddard. Included are two "Statement(s) of Lineage," or genealogies, of the Stoddard family. The first statement (1806) was written by Robert Stoddard for his son, Increase Billings Stoddard, and the second was written by Increase Billings Stoddard for his son, Increase Stoddard. Other documents include an autograph warrant signed by Increase B. Stoddard, dated 1822, for the imprisonment of Nicholas J. Morris; an article of agreement for Henry Goble to lease a parcel of land from Stoddard; a receipt signed by Daniel Bodle for the schooling of Stoddard's children; an indenture of Hester Hall to the Stoddard family, listing her terms of apprenticeship; and an assessment of Stoddard property signed by the assessor Lewis Van Inwegen, dated July 30, 1839.

Arranged by accession number.

Gift of Mrs. Albert Miller of Trenton, New Jersey, in May 1948 (AM13669-13678).
