Born in Cuba in 1952, Juan Abreu specialized in painting and sculpture at Havana's San Alejandro School of Fine Arts before leaving Cuba in the Mariel boatlift of 1980. His earliest published works were A Mi Guia, a Mi Guia (1967), a collection of children's stories, and El Gigante Tragaceibas (1968), a children's novel. Later works include A la Sombra del Mar: Jornadas Cubanas con Reinaldo Arenas (1998), Garbageland (2001), and Cinco Cervezas (2004).
This collection consists of manuscripts of Abreu's A la Sombra del Mar and Libro de los Exhortaciones al Amor, notes, and one letter from Abreu to Reinaldo Arenas.
Deposit of the author in 1985. AM 1986-51, 1995-71.
