Horton Davies was a Princeton University professor of religion; his wife, Marie-Helene Davies, is author of LAUGHTER IN A GENEVAN GOWN: THE WORKS OF FREDERICK BUECHNER, 1970-1980 (1983).
Consists of papers relating to the novelist Frederick Buechner (Princeton Class of 1947) collected or created by Davies. Included are a notebook and notes about Buechner by Davies, transcripts (1979-1981) of interviews conducted by the Davies with Buechner and with others, such as Bruce McLellan, Douglas Snow, James Merrill, and Gerrish Thurber, about Buechner, an inscribed copy of a 1980 Princeton University senior thesis, THE NATURE OF FAITH IN THE FICTION OF FREDERICK BUECHNER, 1965-1979, by Harry J. Parker, about 30 letters (1978-1982) from Buechner in Vermont to the Davies in Princeton, New Jersey, and a photocopy of a typescript of "North Star: A Book of Poems" (1943) by Frederick Buechner and James Merrill, dedicated to Gerrish Thurber.
