During the 1930s, Bowman (Princeton Class of 1931) traveled in South America and Mexico, publishing four books on those travels, and a novel. After a stint in the Navy during World War II (stationed in Washington, D.C.), he became a public affairs officer with assignments in Chile, Italy, France, and Yugoslavia.
Consists of 68 diaries kept by Bowman, spanning the years 1923-1989 (with the exception of 1931 and 1952). Also present are photographs taken by Bowman in the West Indies and various South American countries including Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, and Peru.
The diaries are arranged chronologically and the photographs alphabetically by country.
