Overview and metadata sections

Haines, Wilder Haydn, 1893-1980

Wilder Haydn Haines was a member of the Princeton Class of 1915.

The collection consists primarily of four albums of photographs taken by Haines (Princeton Class of 1915) during a trip to China and Japan from October 27, 1920, to July 2, 1921. Included are views of Peking, the Great Wall, Tientsin, Shanghai, Nanking, the Yangtze River, Hong Kong, Yokohama, Nagasaki, and Kyoto. The photographs are accompanied by a transcript of a journal kept by Haines and his wife, Mildred, during their trip, and by pamphlets, memorabilia, and a small amount of correspondence, 1921-1923, with T. M. Tsoh, a Chinese banker.

Arranged as follows: photograph albums I-IV, journal transcript, letters, memorabilia.

The collection was a gift from Haines's son, Lawrence Alan Haines (Princeton Class of 1945) (AM1992-113).

For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests are processed by an approved third-party vendor. Please note, the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks to as long as several months and there may be financial costs associated with the process. Requests should be directed through the Ask Us Form.
