Overview and metadata sections
Josephine Perry Morgan (1869-1962) was the daughter of General Alexander J. Perry (1828-1913) and Josephine Adams Perry (1834-1917). She married Junius Spencer Morgan on June 4, 1891 in New York. They built a mansion house in Princeton in 1897, called Constitution Hill (one of the first English Gothic houses in America), and had three children: Lucretia Perry (died in infancy), Sarah Spencer, and Alexander Perry (Princeton Class of 1922).
Biography of Junius Spencer Morgan
Junius Spencer Morgan was born in 1867 in New York. He was the son of George Hale Morgan (1840-1911) and Sarah Spencer Morgan (1839-1896). He graduated from Princeton University in 1888 and became a banker and the founder of Cuyler, Morgan, & Co. He was also the associate librarian of Princeton University from 1898-1909 and retired from banking in 1910. He assisted his uncle on his mother's side, the financier J. Pierpont Morgan, in making acquisitions for the Morgan Library in New York. In addition, his lifetime collection of over 700 titles of the Roman poet, Virgil, bears his name at the Princeton University Library. Junius Spencer Morgan died in 1932 in Switzerland.

The collection consists primarily of letters received by Josephine Perry Morgan before and after her marriage to Junius Spencer Morgan. There is also correspondence of Junius Spencer Morgan and their daughter Sarah Morgan Gardner and correspondence between various Perry family members including Josephine Perry Morgan's parents, Alexander J. Perry and Josephine Adams Perry. In addition, the collection contains diaries, financial papers, photographs and other miscellaneous memorabilia.
The collection was formed as a result of a departmental practice of combining into one collection manuscript material of various accessions relating to a particular author.
Most of the collection was a gift to Princeton University Library from the Morgan Family.
