Overview and metadata sections
Eli Field Cooley (Princeton Class of 1806) was pastor of the First Church in Ewing Township, New Jersey.
The collection consists of sermons, correspondence, documents, diaries, commonplace books, diplomas, and miscellaneous financial papers of Cooley (Princeton Class of 1806). The bulk of the collection is comprised of sermons written by Cooley while he was pastor of the First Church in Ewing Township, New Jersey, some of his correspondence, and letters to Emma L. Rose Cooley (Mrs. William L. Cooley) by several of her relatives. Also included are Cooley's diaries for the years 1826, 1828, 1831, 1836-1840, 1842-1860; indentures and lists of goods and chattel; and financial notebooks, cancelled checks, and receipts.
Arranged in this order: correspondence, legal documents, miscellaneous financial papers, sermons, diaries, diplomas.
The collection was formed as a result of a departmental practice of combining into one collection manuscript material of various accessions relating to a particular author.
For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests are processed by an approved third-party vendor. Please note, the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks to as long as several months and there may be financial costs associated with the process. Requests should be directed through the Ask Us Form.
