Overview and metadata sections
The Abbotts are one of New Jersey's oldest families, having inhabited the state since the early eighteenth century.
For the names and relationships of family members, refer to the family tree:
This collection consists of original poems, correspondence, and common place books of various Abbott family members. The bulk of the collection consists of family documents, such as marriage certificates, deeds, bonds, promissory notes, receipts, surveys, bills of sale, and other legal papers. There is also a small selection of miscellanea including a diary of Richard M. Abbott (1890), an album of Abbott family history, and a photograph album.
Gift of John L. Abbot.
For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests are processed by an approved third-party vendor. Please note, the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks to as long as several months and there may be financial costs associated with the process. Requests should be directed through the Ask Us Form.
