An American novelist, Thielen was the author of such works as Deep Streets (1932), Dinosaur Tracks and Other Stories (1937), and Friday at Noon (1947).
The collection consists of letters by Thielen (Princeton Class of 1923) to Frederic Roderigo Gruger, Jr., dating from their college years at Princeton and Yale, respectively, until a few years before Thielen's death, as well as some photographs and printed matter. Many of the letters are in French.

This collection was the gift of Mr. Frederic R. Gruger, Jr. in 1985.
