A graduate of Princeton University (Class of 1892), Jesse Lynch Williams was an American dramatist and novelist. His work Why Marry? won the first Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1918.
WilliamsThe collection contains manuscripts, typescripts, and notes for several works of Jesse Lynch Williams (Princeton Class of 1892): an unfinished novel ( His Share of the World, 1901-1904), two plays ( Why Divorce? and Why Marry?), a collection of prose sketches about New York City life at the turn of the century, and several short works, both fiction and non-fiction. Also included are diaries, notebooks, and appointment books, 1890-1912.

This collection was the gift of Mr. Laidlaw O. Williams in 1961.
