Overview and metadata sections
John Watson Dalby and George James De Wilde were both poets and literary men, as well as friends of Leigh Hunt, whom their letters frequently concern.
This collection consists primarily of correspondence between John Watson Dalby and George James De Wilde spanning the period between 1826 and 1875. Included are 290 letters from Dalby to De Wilde and 4 letters from De Wilde to Dalby, as well as 7 manuscripts, and a small selection of letters by and to Leigh Hunt. In addition, there are miscellaneous correspondence of John Hunter, Maria Wilby, and others, and miscellaneous items including a report on the Leigh Hunt Memorial fund in the hand of Robert Browning.
The following standard abbreviations, or their variations, are used to identify materials in this collection: ALsS = autograph letters signed, AMs = autograph manuscript.
For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests are processed by an approved third-party vendor.
