Overview and metadata sections

Wright

Walter Livingston Wright Jr. (1900-1949) served as professor of Turkish language and history at Princeton University and served as president of Robert College and the Istanbul Woman's College in Istanbul, Turkey. Wright also taught at American University in Bierut. Wright spent much of World War II in Turkey working for the Office of Strategic Services (OSS). Wright graduated from Princeton University in 1921.

The collection contains manuscripts, correspondence, and documents of Wright (Princeton Class of 1921) relating to his work in Turkey, Princeton, and Washington, D.C. There is extensive correspondence with his father (Princeton Class of 1892) while Wright was president of the American College for Girls and Robert College in Istanbul, and the collection includes sketches of the founders of Robert College and papers on the earthquake that took place in Turkey in 1939. In addition, there are some essays, translations, and correspondence of Wright's father who was president of Lincoln University (Pa.), one of the first American universities for African Americans.

The items donated in 2024 by Laura Ivey, a friend of the Wright family, had belonged to brothers Walter L. Wright III, Marjorie Williams Wright, and Frederick Wright.

For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure.
