Overview and metadata sections
Merrell Noden, Princeton Class of 1978, (1955 -2015) was a journalist and cross country coach based primarily in New Jersey. After graduating from Princeton, Noden studied at Oxford and earned a degree in English literature. Noden reported for Sports Illustrated between 1986 -1999. He contributed to Princeton Alumni Weekly for over two decades. As a Princeton alumni '78, he conducted interviews with fellow alumni and wrote articles on Vietnam, Shakespeare and athletics. He contributed to the magazine until he passed away in 2015.
This collection features microcassettes as well as written and typed notes from interviews with Princeton Alumni taken for Princeton Alumni Weekly (PAW). Noden conducted interviews with mathematician Manjul Bhargava, composer Steven Mackey, professor of political philosophy, ethics, and public policy Danielle Allen, former presidents of Princeton University William G. Bowen and Robert Goheen as well as many others. Alongside handwritten notes and printed transcripts of interviews, Noden printed articles related to his interviewees and email correspondence. Many of the microcassettes are unlabeled.
The collection was donated by Eva Mantell in 2022. The accession number associated with this donation is AR.2022.077.
