Overview and metadata sections

Princeton University. Bureau of Student Placement.

The Bureau of Student Placement was an administrative office at Princeton University that operated roughly from 1945 to 1953. The Bureau acted as a liaison between the various armed services and the Princeton University community. Its activities included recommending students for officers' training, corresponding with servicemen, and distributing information about military training programs on campus such as the ROTC. The Bureau's director throughout its existence was Gordon G. Sikes '16, who was also the men's heavyweight rowing coach.

Consists of army, navy, and marine corps plans for colleges, card files containing information about students in the service, and the correspondence of director Gordon G. Sikes which includes letters to and from servicemen, military officials, and other University administrators.

For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests are processed by an approved third-party vendor. Please note, the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks to as long as several months and there may be financial costs associated with the process. Requests should be directed through the Ask Us Form.
