Abstract:: Since its first class of six graduates and one honoree in 1748, Princeton University has awarded over 80,000 diplomas. This collection contains 213 original diplomas and photostats, including executed diplomas as well as blank, sample or spoiled diplomas.

Scope and Contents

Series 2: Blank and Unused Diplomas, 1863-1916, contains approximately 30 diplomas. Some of the diplomas are signed by president John Maclean, one is signed by president James Carnahan, and many are signed by trustees. None of the diplomas are filled out with students' names. A few of the diplomas appear to be drafts. The series also includes one sheet of instructions for preparing diplomas for engineering students (1916).

Arrangement

No order has been imposed on the materials in Series 2; they remain in the order in which they arrived at the time of transfer.
