This is a finding aid. It is a description of archival material held at the Princeton University Library: University Archives. Unless otherwise noted, the materials described below are physically available in their reading room, and not digitally available through the web.
Overview and metadata sections
This collection contains more than two hundred autograph books from more than two hundred members of classes between 1825 and 1884.
The collection is arranged by class year and then students' last name.
For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests are processed by an approved third-party vendor. Please note, the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks to as long as several months and there may be financial costs associated with the process. Requests should be directed through the Ask Us Form.

The book contains engraved portraits of the members of the Class of 1856 along with their signatures.

The autograph book features notes from Kibbee's classmates from various northern and southern states; some of the notes are fairly extensive. After graduating from Princeton in 1857, Kibbee went on to become a Confederate soldier and a Georgia judge and legislator.

Sams' autograph book contains over 125 autographs and inscriptions, many by other South Carolinians and Southerners. Many of them became Confederate soldiers. Notable inscribers include Joseph Henry, Joseph Hodgson, Jr., Charles Haight, Charles Howard Malcom, and John J. Black. Folder includes a copy of dealer description of Sams and the autograph book.

Corn's autograph book is signed by students from both Northern and Southern states. Corn was from Kentucky and fought with the 20th Kentucky Volunteers during the Civil War. He later served on the Supreme Court of Wyoming. Folder includes a biographical sketch of Corn and his wife Emma Jane Blackburn Corn provided by his descendants.
