Material included in this series includes office memoranda, clippings, bank financial statements, business stores reports, building and loan association records, as well as documents related to Greenfield’s competitors. All companies and ventures Greenfield was involved with are represented: the inception of Greenfield's Bankers Trust Company, Bankers Bond & Mortgage Company, and Bankers Securities; the Benjamin Franklin Hotel, the St. James Hotel, Lit Brothers, Almar Stores Company, the construction of the Greenfield and Equitable Buildings, Philadelphia Rapid Transit Company, Baldwin Locomotive Works, and the Fox Theatrical Enterprises.

Since Greenfield was very active in numerous charitable and civic organizations such as the Federation of Jewish Charities and the Young Men's Hebrew Association, many files reflect this aspect of his life. He also made contributions to Catholic charities, some of whcih are acknowledged with personal thank you notes by Cardinal Dougherty. Here can also be found papers related to his appointments to the Board of City Trusts, Mayor Harry Mackey's Committee on Contracts, Chamber of Commerce's Conventions and Exhibitions Committee, as chairman of the Finance Committee of the Sesquicentennial celebration, and as trustee of Temple University and the National Farm School.

The part of the series covering 1930-1939 features files of requests for financial aid he received from individuals and organizations. Included in this part of the collection are written death threats from angry bank depositors Greenfield received after the closing of his Bankers Trust. Correspondence, clippings, and legal documents relating to the ensuing public controversy with Moses Annenberg can also be found in this section.

During the 1930s Greenfield became very active in politics. He switched political parties in 1936 to support Franklin D. Roosevelt and, as reflected by numerous documents in this series, was instrumental in bringing the Democratic National Convention to Philadelphia that year. Other files from this section include papers related to the Philadelphia Business Fund, City Planning Commission, Pennsylvania State Constitution, Philadelphia Advisory Finance Commission, Pennsylvania Constitutional Commemoration Commission, and Temple University.

Material from the 1940s includes correspondence with friends and family serving in World War II and documents reflecting his involvment with the National Conference of Christians and Jews, Inc., the Community Chest, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also received an appointment to the National Shrines Park Commission by President Truman in 1946 and was named chair of the Citizens' Reception Committee of the American Legion Convention. In terms of business records, during this decade Greenfield’s papers include material on City Stores Company, Bankers Securities, Loft Candy Company of New York, Hoving Corporation, and the Bellevue Stratford Hotel.

Greenfield helped secure the 1948 Democratic and Republican conventions for Philadelphia; as head of the All Philadelphia Citizens Committee Greenfield was at the helm of the effort putting together the bids. His files contain clippings, correspondence, press releases and articles regarding both conventions. Since Greenfield served as a delegate-at-large for the Democratic National Convention the amount of material from that event is larger than what he kept on the Republican Convention. Material from this decade also includes condolences he received after the death of his wife after a long illness.

Documents from the 1950s include papers related to his third marriage, his retirement as president of the Albert M. Greenfield & Co. after fifty years, and his retirement from the Board of City Trusts. During this decade he became chairman of the Philadelphia City Planning Commission, chairman of the committee in charge of organizing the Albert Einstein Medical Center, and served as president of both the Chamber of Commerce and the Pennsylvania Water Resources Committee. Documents in this section also describe the development of both the Albert M. Greenfield Center for Human Relations at the University of Pennsylvania and the Albert M. Greenfield Foundation. Other documents pertain to the Commission on Governmental Reorganization for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Governor's Commission on Public Library Development, the Pennsylvania Commission for Celebrating the 175th Anniversary of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence, and the Armed Forces Day Celebration. Greenfield's active pace continued during the 1960s, even though he was in his 1970s. He continued to be appointed to various commissions by mayors, governors and presidents, regardless of their party affiliation. These included, but were not limited to: the Federal Commission for Observance of the 175th Anniversary of the U.S. Constitution; the Citizens Committee for International Development; the President's Committee for Equal Employment Opportunity; the Governor's Committee for a Constitutional Convention; the Philadelphia Committee in support of Project 70; the Fairmount Park Commission, and the Citizens Committee to Analyze and Study the Budget and Budgetary Processes and Procedures of the Philadelphia Board of Education. In 1960 and 1964 he served again as a delegate-at-large to the Democratic National Conventions and also became presidential elector. Some of the local and national political figures with a significant presence in this part of the collection are Adlai Stevenson, Richardson Dilworth, Joseph S. Clark, George Leader, Hale Boggs, Sam Rayburn, and Presidents Truman and Hoover.
