Overview and metadata sections
John Thompson Morris (1848-1915) was born in Philadelphia to Isaac Paschall Morris and Rebecca Thompson Morris. He attended Haverford College from 1863-1865, leaving after his sophomore year. Morris began to work for his father's shipbuilding company, I.P. Morris and Co. and took over upon his father's death in 1869. Morris served on the Haverford College Board of Managers from 1881 to 1884 and from 1891 to 1896. He died on August 15, 1915.
This collection contains two letters addressed to David Scull Hinshaw and one letter to Dr. Babbitt. The letters primarily concern the construction of an infirmary on the grounds of Haverford College. The first two letters, addressed to Hinshaw and dated May 5 and May 31, 1911, respectively, lay out Morris's plan for the infirmary, as well as give a breakdown of costs and total funds raised by Morris. The final letter, addressed to Babbitt and dated October 10, 1911, provides an update on construction and describes the grand proportions of the building.
