Hugh Exton McKinstry entered Haverford College in 1913 and graduated in 1917. He obtained a masters degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1921. During his time at Haverford, he served as the president of Students Council and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. After graduating from MIT, he worked as a geologist with Cerro de Pasco Copper Corporation in Peru.
The collection consists of a notebook with notes that Hugh E. McKinstry took during a freshman year English class taught by Francis B. Gummere at Haverford College. The topic of the class was Geoffrey Chaucer.
The materials are arranged chronologically.
