James William Cromwell entered Haverford College in 1855 and left in 1857. He co-founded the Athenaeum and worked as a mercantile banker in the firm William Iselin Co. in New York City.

The collection contains a letter written by James W. Cromwell to his father about his time at Haverford and his classes.
